SANGATH ARCHITECTS STUDIO & BO MON PRESCHOOL
AUG 2020: STUDIO (ARC 207)
Under the instruction of Professor Joseph Godlewski
Similar to the previous assignment, this project was an introduction to our first semester of second year studio. We started off by choosing a precedent to study the architectural qualities and relationships of the spaces. After researching details and qualities of the precedent, we combined these forms with another student’s precedent to create a new structure that fuses the ideas together. I fused the Sangath Architects Studio and the Bo Mon Preschool.
The Sangath Architects Studio is comprised of repetitive cylindrical roof structures. These roofs allow rainwater to flow into the channels and flow throughout the entire project. The formal language beneath on the interior greatly contrasts the curvalinear roofs.
Both of the precedents had a larger idea of the connection of an individual and nature. One would have a greater connection with nature through their experience throughout them. The Bo Mon Preschool connects one with nature through its sustainable roof form that resembles its surrounding mountainous context. It also admits a lot of natural light into the classrooms through windows in the roof. In this fusion of two projects, I incorporated large curvilinear windows to allow for natural light as well as a green auditorium in the outdoors. The water channels are a natural way to indicate the flow throughout the project as well as giving the project a serene, mesmerizing glow under the sun and moon light.
